Honey components


Honey is considered a source of carbohydrates , as a tablespoon of it provides us with approximately 64 calories , and honey consists mainly of :

80 % of natural sugar ( mostly fructose and glucose ) , and due to its high fructose level , honey is considered sweeter than table sugar .

18 % of the water, and the less water the honey contains , the better its quality .

2 % of its ingredients are minerals , vitamins , pollen and protein .

What does honey contain ?


Honey contains :
- Vitamins : a proportion of vitamins , the most important of which are B6 , thiamin , niacin , riboflavin , pantothenic acid and some amino acids .
- Minerals : percentages of minerals , which include calcium , copper , iron , magnesium , manganese , phosphorous , potassium , sodium and zinc .
- Anti-bacterial material .
- Antioxidants such as riboflavinoid .
- In addition , it is free of fat and cholesterol .

Beehive products and their benefits :


In addition to honey , there are other products for beehives , which we can use include bee venom , beeswax , royal jelly , bee pollen powder and honey gum or propolis , each of which has a very important effect on the different processes that occur in our body , due to its distinctive compounds .

1 - Bee venom :

2 - Honey gum or propolis :


Propolis is a natural antibiotic , which bees produce , and it is the fruit of the metabolism processes that occur in the body of the bee .

Propolis is composed of : resin , wax , etheric oils ( essential oils ) , bee pollen powder , vitamins ( mainly B2 , B1 , and E ) and minerals ( such as : iron , calcium , manganese , aluminum and zinc ) .

Beeswax keeps the beehive from dangers , due to its antibacterial properties , protects humans from the risks of infection , bacterial diseases , viruses and molds , and positively affects calcium and phosphorous metabolism in the body .

Medicinal uses :


- Propolis has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect .
- Contributes to lowering blood pressure and high cholesterol level .
- Fights Staphylococcus aureus germs that proliferate in the lungs and kidneys .
- Helps treat tough wounds and burns .
- Gynecological diseases can be cured , by applying an ointment or solution of propolis to the affected areas .

3 - Royal jelly :


Royal jelly is milk produced by bees who cannot fly , which are called " lactating bees " . Royal jelly plays an important role in the development and growth of the queen mother bee ( this food is given to queens only ) .

Due to the effect of the royal jelly , the queen can lay a very large number of eggs , and the royal jelly contains 24 % water , 31 % protein , 15 % fats , 15 % carbohydrates , vitamins B and E , acetylcholine and digestive enzymes .

Vitamin E is used as an antioxidant , to keep the Royal Jelly from the risk of oxidative stress and spoilage .

4 - Pollen powder :

Each pollen powder has a different effect , according to the flowers it was produced from . In the past it was believed that bee pollen powder extends life , gives the feeling of youth , increases activity and strengthens resistance .

5 - Beeswax :


The bees produce it during the construction of the honeycomb , and the wax is produced in special glands located in the abdomen of the bee , the bee produces wax in days 10-17 of its life , and from the eighteenth day onwards , the glands begin to shrink and stop working .
